About the Colors

The beads display a natural gradient of golden amber, sunlit honey, and earthy brown, with a soft matte finish that adds to their organic feel. The warm tones evoke the glow of late afternoon sunlight, enhancing the richness of the handcrafted brass centerpiece.

Traditional Craftsmanship

In Krobo land, Ghana, artisans create these glass beads from recycled bottles and glassware. The glass is ground into a fine powder, placed into clay molds, and fired in a traditional firewood kiln, producing beads with subtle variations in tone and texture.

The Ashanti brass beads are produced in Kumasi using the ancient lost wax casting technique. Each bead begins as a wax model, encased in clay, then replaced with molten brass. The mold is broken after casting, ensuring each bead is unique.

Cultural Significance

Both Krobo glass beads and Ashanti brass beads have been treasured in West African trade for centuries, serving as currency, symbols of prestige, and important cultural artifacts. This necklace carries forward that heritage into a wearable work of art.
