NSOROMMA – Adinkra Symbol “Child of the Heavens”

Celebrate divine guidance with the NSOROMMA Adinkra stamp  a traditional Adinkra stamping block from Ntonso, Ghana. This powerful Ghana Adinkra stamp represents the “Child of the Heavens”, a reflection of God’s illumination in our lives.

  • Height including handle: 3 ½″ (90 mm)
  • Stamping motif diameter: 2 ¾″ (70 mm)

The NSOROMMA symbol literally “child of the heavens” is revered in Akan culture as reflecting the light of the divine. While no specific Akan proverb centers NSOROMMA, its meaning evokes blessings, purity, and spiritual enlightenment.

How the Stamp Is Made

Each Adinkra stamping block is hand‑carved from the bottom of a calabash (gourd), forming the curved stamping surface. A sturdy cane or wooden peg handle is affixed to the back and wrapped in cloth for comfort. The dye crafted locally from the bark of the “badie” tree is applied with a gentle rocking motion to create deep, organic imprints.

History & Cultural Importance

The art of Adinkra dates back to Nana Kofi Adinkra, a king of Gyaman (now Ivory Coast), who, after being defeated by Asantahene Bonsu‑Panyin of Asante, was taken to Kumasi. His mourning cloth patterned and symbolic became the inspiration for Adinkra cloths. Initially reserved for royalty, chiefs, and priests during funerals and ceremonies, Adinkra cloth has since become widely worn in Ghana for all special occasions.

Each NSOROMMA stamp is perfect for creating your own Adinkra cloth designs.
