The Art of Krobo Beadmaking
Krobo artisans employ a meticulous method to create these beads:
- Collection and Preparation: Glass fragments from bottles and windows are collected, cleaned, and broken into smaller pieces.
- Molding: The fragments are placed into clay molds to define the shape and size of the beads.
- Firing: The molds are heated in a kiln, fusing the glass pieces together while maintaining their distinctive colors and translucency.
- Finishing: After cooling, the beads are polished to remove rough edges and enhance their appearance.
These beads are more than adornments; they are deeply rooted in Ghanaian culture, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity. Own a piece of history while supporting sustainable craftsmanship.
