Item number:

SKU:SB-39854

Introducing our stunning strand of NEW African trade beads, crafted from recycled fused glass beads by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. Each bead is meticulously tumble rounded and polished, resulting in a smooth, refined surface that enhances its natural beauty.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 24 3/4" (63 cm)
  • Bead Size: Approximately 12 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These exquisite beads are made using small recycled glass beads that are fused together to form larger, non-translucent beads. The artisans of Kroboland collect and prepare these small beads, placing them into clay molds that determine the final shape and size. The molds are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the small beads into a single, larger bead while preserving some of the original textures and patterns. Once cooled, the beads are polished to achieve a smooth finish.

The Krobo people have perfected this technique, producing beads that are not only vibrant and intricately patterned but also hold significant cultural value. These beads are often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity in Ghanaian society. By purchasing these beads, you are supporting sustainable practices and celebrating a rich cultural heritage.
