African handmade beads recycled glass powder Krobo ethnic necklace Ghana jewelry

Item number:

SKU:SB-40499

Experience the beauty of our translucent powder glass African beads, masterfully crafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. These beads are inspired by old Venetian glass trade beads, bringing a touch of history and elegance to your creations.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 21 1/2" (54.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 12-13 mm in diameter

Each bead is meticulously handmade from recycled glass bottles and other glass items. The glass is crushed into a fine powder, placed into molds, and then fired to create these stunning beads. This process not only preserves the environment by recycling materials but also sustains the traditional bead-making craft of the Krobo people.

The technique used by the Krobo people involves intricate craftsmanship, making each bead unique. Trade beads hold significant cultural and historical importance in Ghana and across Africa, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of wealth and social status.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
