YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
The artisans of Kroboland employ a traditional bead-making technique that reflects their rich cultural history. The process begins with the collection and preparation of recycled glass items, such as bottles and other glass fragments. These materials are meticulously cleaned and broken into smaller pieces.
Next, the glass fragments are placed into clay molds that determine the final shape and size of each bead. These molds are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the glass fragments together without melting them entirely. This process preserves the glass's original colors and translucency, resulting in beads that are not only vibrant but also uniquely variegated.
After cooling, the beads are carefully removed from the molds and often polished to smooth out any rough edges. This meticulous attention to detail ensures that each bead is not only beautiful but also a durable piece of art.
Krobo beads hold significant cultural importance in Ghanaian society. They are often used in various ceremonies and are symbols of status and identity, making them more than just decorative items, but pieces of cultural heritage.
