History, Value & Production of Conteria (Old Venetian Drawn Beads)
These tiny drawn beads, also known as Venetian seed beads, conteria beads or Old Venetian drawn beads, were produced in Venice using centuries‑old glass‑drawing techniques. Molten glass was formed into long hollow canes, which were then stretched and cut into the smallest uniform beads. Because they were crafted by hand in historical glasshouses, each bead carries a piece of Venetian legacy and artisanal craftsmanship. Used extensively in the African trade from the late 19th to mid 20th century, such beads carry both cultural significance and collectible value.
The value of these true Old Venetian drawn beads lies in their rarity, condition and intact strand length. Collectors prize authentic, tiny-size, saturated blue beads that remain unpolished and fully original.
A perfect item for collectors, designers or those seeking authentic trade‑era materials.
