History, Value & Venetian Production
These tiny blue beads are authentic Old Venetian drawn glass beads, historically referred to as Conteria or seed beads. They were hand‑drawn in Venetian glass factories during the early 20th century and exported widely through trade routes, particularly into Africa, where they became currency in trade and highly sought after.
Their value today lies in their rarity, age, and original craftsmanship. Each bead is individually drawn and cut by expert Venetian artisans techniques passed down over centuries in Murano’s famed glass‑making tradition. The result is a finely uniform yet handmade bead, prized by collectors and designers alike.
These Old Venetian Conteria beads are not reproduced today in the same way making your strand a true antique collector’s piece with both historical and aesthetic significance.
