History, Value & Venetian Craftsmanship

Venetian drawn seed beads also called Conteria Beads or Old Venetian Drawn Beads, were hand‑made in Venice using a centuries‑old glass‑drawing technique. Molten glass was drawn into very fine hollow tubes, cut into uniform tiny beads, then typically polished and sometimes cores (silver or copper) added for sheen. Each bead reflects the rich tradition of Venetian glassmaking.

These tiny 3–4 mm beads were favored in African trade during the early to mid‑1900s for their vivid colors, uniform quality, and value as currency or decoration. Today, genuine old Venetian seed beads are prized for their authenticity, craftsmanship, and rarity making this strand a valuable collectible and gorgeous addition to any jeweler’s or collector’s inventory.
