Discover this exquisite strand of opalescent Old Venetian seed glass trade beads

Also known as Conteria beads or Old Venetian drawn beads. Perfectly preserved and ready to enhance any collection or jewelry design.

  • Bead Size: 2 – 4 mm in diameter
  • Strand Length: Approximately 27″ (68.5 cm) of beautiful tiny beads
  • Condition: Excellent – pristine old beads, no chips, cracks, or wear

These tiny opalescent seed beads are genuine Venetian drawn beads from the early 1900s, used in African trade. Each bead is identical to the photos shown, offering consistent color and size throughout the strand.

History & Value

Conteria drawn beads were meticulously handcrafted in Venice using traditional glass‑drawing techniques. Molten glass was formed into long hollow rods and then cut into minute seed‑sized sections. These Old Venetian trade beads were highly prized for their beauty and uniformity during the African trade era.

Today, their rarity and historical significance make them truly valuable collector’s pieces and ideal for high‑quality jewelry or museum‑grade display.

How They Were Made

In Venice, artisans drew glass from a “biscotto” core and stretched it into fine hollow tubes. Once cooled, the tubes were sliced into thousands of uniformly sized seed beads. These opalescent variants achieved their luminescent sheen through specialized glass formulas and heat‑treatment.

Each bead strand serves both as a piece of history and a premium design component.
