Recycled Krobo Glass and Brass Beads - African Trade Strand 26.5"

Handmade Krobo Glass and Brass Beads - Authentic African Trade Beads

Discover the vibrant beauty and craftsmanship of this new mixed strand of Krobo glass and Ashanti brass beads, handmade with traditional techniques in Ghana, West Africa. This strand celebrates Africa's rich bead-making heritage by blending recycled glass beads with brass beads crafted using the ancient lost wax casting method.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 26.5" (67 cm)
  • Bead Size: 10-15 mm in diameter
  • Material: Recycled glass & lost wax brass
  • Origin: Krobo and Ashanti regions, Ghana

Each Krobo bead is handmade by skilled artisans from Kroboland using recycled glass bottles and discarded glass objects. These are crushed into fine powder, dyed, and carefully poured into hand-carved clay molds. After firing in traditional kilns, the result is a vibrant and durable bead, often imitating antique Venetian fancy trade beads with a colorful and rustic charm. The brass beads on this strand are crafted by artisans in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region, through the ancient lost wax casting technique. Each brass bead begins with a wax model, which is then encased in clay. When fired, the wax melts away, leaving a mold for molten brass to be poured in. This one-of-a-kind process ensures every bead is uniquely detailed and deeply rooted in tradition. These recycled glass and brass beads are more than adornments they are symbolic of centuries of African trade, artistry, and sustainability. Trade beads have long served as a form of currency, cultural exchange, and storytelling throughout Ghana and Africa at large.
