The Krobo glass beads are made in Kroboland, Ghana, using an eco-conscious process. Recycled bottles and glass items are ground into powder and poured into clay molds. These molds are fired in traditional kilns, resulting in beautifully vibrant beads that reflect the deep cultural roots of Krobo craftsmanship.
The brass beads are handmade in the Ashanti region of Ghana, notably in Kumasi, using the ancient lost wax casting technique. Each mold is sculpted individually from beeswax, then encased in clay. When heated, the wax melts away, leaving a cavity filled with molten brass. This labor-intensive process ensures that no two beads are exactly alike, adding uniqueness to every strand.
Beads like these recycled glass and lost wax brass beads are not just ornaments; they are powerful symbols of African trade and storytelling. African trade beads have long played an important role in cultural identity, rituals, and commerce across the continent. Today, they continue to connect past and present, showcasing the vibrant legacy of Ghanaian artisanship.
