The Krobo Bead-Making Technique
Crafted using traditional Krobo techniques, these Ghana glass beads reflect an ancient process:
- Recycled glass fragments are carefully collected, cleaned, and broken into smaller pieces.
- Artisans place the fragments into clay molds, shaping each bead with care.
- Fired at high temperatures, the fragments fuse together while maintaining their distinctive colors and translucency.
- After cooling, the beads are polished for a smooth finish.
The Krobo people of Ghana have perfected this craft, creating beads that hold cultural significance in African traditions, ceremonies, and trade.
