Introducing our exquisite strand of recycled glass beads, handcrafted by skilled artisans in Kroboland, Ghana. These beads beautifully imitate the historic "Dutch Annular" glass trade beads, showcasing a seamless blend of tradition and sustainability.

  • Length of Strand: 20 1/2" (52 cm)
  • Bead Diameter: 11 mm

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The Krobo people utilize an intricate technique to create these remarkable beads. The process begins with the collection of discarded glass items such as bottles and windows. These are meticulously cleaned and broken into small fragments.

Next, the glass fragments are carefully placed into clay molds, which shape and size the beads. These molds are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the glass pieces together while maintaining their original colors and translucency. This method results in beads that are not only durable but also display a stunning, variegated appearance.

Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges. The finished beads are vibrant, with intricate patterns that make each piece unique. These beads hold a special cultural significance in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
