This is authentic old African very good quality hand woven ASHANTI KENTE.
This is a "Woman size" cloth and measures 73" x 46" ( 185 cm x 117 cm ).
The cloth was hand woven in the 1970s and is in good condition with the exception of 3 repairs, few small size holes, some stains and some wear due to usage and age.
Kente is an ASHANTI / ASANTE ( Ghana - West Africa ) Ceremonial cloth that is hand woven on a horizontal treadle loom.
The strips are sewn together into larger pieces of cloths.
It takes from several weeks to months for a weaver to complete a cloth like this depending of the design and size !
Kente is more than just a cloth but is a visual representation of history, ethics, oral literature, philosophy, moral values and religious beliefs. The Kente cloths history goes back to the 17th Century. In present days is still used as a cloth in Ghana but is also used by collectors of fine woven cloths and artifacts as Wall hanging, sofa or bed covering.
