Handmade African Trade Beads: Recycled Ghana Glass Beads

Handmade African Trade Beads: Recycled Ghana Glass Beads

Item number:

SKU:SB-39843

Discover the vibrant beauty of our new African glass beads, meticulously handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads are made from recycled "White Heart" glass beads, ensuring both sustainability and unique charm.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 22.5" (57 cm)
  • Bead Size: 10 - 11 mm in diameter

The artisans use traditional techniques passed down through generations to create these stunning beads. The process begins with the collection and preparation of small size glass beads, which are placed into clay molds that determine the shape and size of the larger beads.

The molds, filled with these smaller beads, are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures. This fuses the small beads together, creating a larger bead while preserving some of the original colors and textures. Unlike the translucent beads made from larger glass fragments, these fused beads are opaque, adding a unique and vibrant look to each strand.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The finished beads are polished to smooth out any rough edges, making them perfect for use in various jewelry projects or as a statement piece on their own. These Krobo beads are not just beautiful but also symbolize the rich heritage and artistry of Ghanaian culture, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
