Each bead is made with traditional techniques passed down for generations by the Krobo artisans. The production process involves crushing old bottles and glass into a fine powder. This powder is then poured into clay molds, often with a leaf stem to create the bead’s hole a process known as the “mold-inlaid” or “core design” technique. The beads are then fired in outdoor kilns using locally sourced fuel, resulting in vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces.
These Ghana glass beads hold cultural and historical significance. As African trade beads, they were once used as currency and in ceremonial exchanges throughout West Africa. Today, they represent a beautiful blend of tradition, sustainability, and artistry.
