Powder Glass Bicone Beads 13-14mm - Ghana Recycled Trade Beads
Handmade 13-14mm Powder Glass Bicone Beads - Recycled Ghana Glass
This stunning strand of recycled African trade beads is handmade in Kroboland, Ghana. These powder glass beads are skillfully crafted to imitate the classic old Venetian bicone “King” glass trade beads, giving them a bold and regal appearance perfect for jewelry design or collection.
Key Features:
- Bead Size: 13-14 mm in diameter
- Strand Length: Approximately 27" (69 cm) of beads
- Color/Style: Bicone-shaped, inspired by antique trade beads
- Material: Recycled glass bottles and other repurposed glass
- Origin: Handmade in Kroboland, Ghana, West Africa
Each bead is made with traditional techniques passed down for generations by the Krobo artisans. The production process involves crushing old bottles and glass into a fine powder. This powder is then poured into clay molds, often with a leaf stem to create the bead’s hole a process known as the “mold-inlaid” or “core design” technique. The beads are then fired in outdoor kilns using locally sourced fuel, resulting in vibrant, one-of-a-kind pieces.
These Ghana glass beads hold cultural and historical significance. As African trade beads, they were once used as currency and in ceremonial exchanges throughout West Africa. Today, they represent a beautiful blend of tradition, sustainability, and artistry.
