Krobo Glass and Brass African Trade Beads - 27" Recycled Strand

Mixed Krobo Glass and Lost Wax Brass Beads - 27" African Trade Strand

Discover the vibrant artistry of Ghana with this stunning strand of recycled Krobo glass beads and Ashanti lost wax brass beads. Each piece is a testament to centuries-old craftsmanship, blending the colorful essence of African trade beads with rich textures and metallic tones.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 27" (69 cm)
  • Bead Size: Ranges from 9 mm to 20 mm in diameter
  • Materials: Recycled powder glass & hand-cast brass

These vibrant Krobo glass beads are skillfully handcrafted by the Krobo people of Ghana. Made from recycled glass bottles and household glass items, the material is ground into fine powder, then poured into clay molds and baked in traditional kilns. The intricate patterns and vivid colors on these beads often imitate antique Venetian trade beads, honoring their historical value while introducing a modern Ghanaian twist.

Complementing the glass beads are beautifully detailed brass beads, crafted in the Ashanti region of Ghana using the ancient lost wax casting technique. Each brass bead starts as a wax model, covered in clay to form a mold. After heating, the wax melts away, leaving space for molten brass to be poured in resulting in unique, one-of-a-kind beads with a rustic, tribal elegance.

African trade beads like these have played a vital role in the cultural and economic exchanges across the continent. They are more than adornments; they are stories of heritage, trade, identity, and artistic excellence, passed down through generations.
