About the Technique
These stunning recycled beads are made using the core design or mold-inlaid technique a traditional method perfected by the Krobo people of Ghana. Crushed glass is poured into hand-carved clay molds, often with a leaf stem to create the bead’s hole. The molds are then fired in outdoor kilns. After cooling, each bead is hand-polished to reveal its final form.
Powder glass beads have long been part of the West African trade bead tradition, serving as a form of currency and a symbol of identity and heritage. Today, they continue to be a meaningful expression of African culture, history, and creativity.
