Every bead on this strand is 100% handmade. The glass beads are crafted in Krobo using a centuries-old method where discarded glass bottles and household items are ground into powder. This powder is poured into hand-carved clay molds, decorated, and fired in traditional outdoor kilns to create vibrant, durable beads. Each one carries the spirit of Krobo artistry and the sustainability of upcycled materials.
The brass beads are meticulously created in the Ashanti region using the ancient lost wax casting technique. For every single bead, a wax model is hand-sculpted and encased in clay. Once fired, the wax melts away, leaving a mold that is filled with molten brass. These molds are broken to release the bead, meaning no two brass beads are ever exactly alike.
Together, these recycled glass and brass beads celebrate Ghana’s rich heritage of craftsmanship and the enduring cultural significance of African trade beads. Once used as currency and symbols of status and identity, trade beads continue to hold deep historical value throughout Africa and among global collectors.
