The Krobo people of Ghana are renowned for their exceptional artistry in creating recycled glass beads. The process begins with crushing recycled glass bottles into a fine powder. The powdered glass is then meticulously poured into clay molds lined with kaolin, which prevents the glass from sticking. Using an age-old firing technique, the molds are placed in traditional kilns and heated to fuse the powder into beads. Each bead is individually shaped and polished, resulting in a smooth finish and vibrant, translucent colors.

African trade beads like these have played a significant role in the history of trade and cultural exchange across Africa. They were once used as currency, symbols of wealth, and markers of social status. Today, they continue to be cherished for their beauty, craftsmanship, and historical significance.
