Each bead in this strand is a one-of-a-kind creation:
Krobo Glass Beads are produced using a traditional method in Kroboland, Ghana. Recycled glass bottles and household glass are crushed into powder, then poured into hand-crafted clay molds. These molds are placed in kilns where the powdered glass fuses into solid, colorful beads. After cooling, each bead is hand-polished and often painted with natural dyes, making every piece uniquely expressive.
Ashanti Brass Beads are created in Kumasi, Ghana using the ancient lost wax casting technique. This meticulous process starts with beeswax models, each crafted by hand. A clay mold encases the wax model and is heated until the wax melts away, leaving a cavity. Molten brass is then poured into this void, forming the final bead. The mold is broken to release the bead, making each brass piece truly one of a kind.
Trade beads like these have been vital to West African history, once used as currency and for ceremonial exchange. Today, they remain symbols of identity, artistry, and heritage, treasured by collectors and designers alike.
