Traditional Craftsmanship of Krobo Beads
These stunning beads are crafted using the “mold-inlaid” technique, also known as the core design method. In this centuries-old process, recycled glass is ground into a fine powder, colored with natural pigments, and carefully placed into hand-carved clay molds. Patterns such as the “eye” are inlaid before the molds are baked in outdoor kilns. Once cooled, each bead is hand-polished and strung with care.
African trade beads like these are more than decorativem, they are vital cultural artifacts that played a major role in trade across West Africa for generations. Today, they continue to be cherished symbols of heritage, craftsmanship, and creativity in Ghana and beyond.
