These beautiful beads are made using traditional Krobo techniques, involving the use of recycled glass fragments. First, small seed glass beads are meticulously collected and placed into clay molds. The molds are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures to fuse the fragments together, creating stunning translucent beads with variegated hues. This method preserves the unique textures and colors of the original glass.
Krobo beads hold a deep cultural significance in Ghana and across Africa. Historically, these African trade beads have symbolized status, identity, and have been integral to various ceremonies. Today, they continue to connect people to the rich heritage of Ghanaian artistry and sustainability.
