African Powder Glass Beads - Handmade Krobo Trade Beads 7mm
African Powder Glass Beads - Handmade Krobo Trade Beads 7mm
Introducing a beautiful strand of NEW African powder glass beads, meticulously handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana (West Africa). Inspired by old Venetian fancy trade beads, these beads are a striking fusion of tradition and artistry.
The strand measures approximately 25 1/4 inches (64 cm) in length, and each bead is crafted to be around 7 mm in diameter, offering uniformity while celebrating the handmade essence of African artistry.
These stunning beads are created from recycled bottles and other glass items, ground into powder and carefully placed into molds. Artisans then bring these molds to life with vibrant colors and intricate patterns, ensuring every bead is uniquely beautiful.
What makes these beads special?
- Bead Size: Approx. 7 mm in diameter
- Strand Length: Approx. 25 1/4 inches (64 cm)
- Material: 100% handmade from recycled glass
Decoration: The intricate patterns on these beads are crafted using a unique process that combines ground glass with natural dyes. Using simple yet precise tools, such as metal or wooden styluses, the artisans etch or paint detailed motifs that showcase the rich cultural heritage of Kroboland.
Firing Process: After decoration, the beads are fired in traditional clay kilns at high temperatures. This step fuses the powdered glass and locks in the vibrant designs, resulting in a polished, durable finish that makes these beads truly timeless.
The Krobo people have mastered this bead-making technique, transforming recycled materials into treasured pieces of art. Powder glass beads, also known as recycled glass beads, have played a vital role in African trade for centuries, symbolizing wealth, cultural identity, and creativity.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
