Tiny Striped Yellow Old Venetian Seed Glass Trade Beads

A full strand of approximately 27 3/4" (70.5 cm) of beads. These Conteria drawn beads date to the early‑mid 1900s and were used in African trade.

  • Size of beads: 3 mm – 4 mm in diameter
  • Condition: Very good vintage condition – minimal wear, vibrant stripes, intact glass

Each bead has been meticulously hand‑drawn in Venice, creating the distinctive striped yellow pattern. This strand of old Venetian drawn beads reflects the artistry and heritage of traditional Venetian glasswork.

History & Value

These Venetian seed beads (also known as Conteria beads or Old Venetian Drawn Beads) were crafted in Venice and used extensively in African trade during the early to mid‑1900s.

Using centuries‑old techniques, Venetian artisans drew molten glass into long slender canes, then carefully cut them into tiny tubular beads. The striped yellow glass pattern was achieved by layering colored glass rods before drawing.

Collectors value these beads not only for their vibrant color and vintage provenance but also for the fine craftsmanship and historical significance. Each tiny bead is a miniature example of artisan Venetian glass mastery.
