These exquisite Venetian wound glass trade beads were used in the African trade during the late 1800s to early 1900s. Each bead showcases intricate trail decoration, a testament to the skill and artistry of Venetian glassmakers.
Venetian lampwork, or wound glass beads, were meticulously crafted in Venice, Italy. The lampwork technique involves winding molten glass around a metal rod, allowing for the creation of complex patterns and vibrant colors. These beads were highly valued in trade, particularly in Ghana and across Africa, where they were exchanged for goods and played a significant role in local economies and cultural practices.
