Venetian drawn beads like this were meticulously handmade in Venice using centuries‑old glassworking traditions. Molten glass rods were drawn into fine tubes, cooled, cut and polished to create uniform tiny beads. Known as “Conteria” beads, they were prized for their precision and purity of color.

These beads were extensively used in trade with West Africa from the late 1800s into the mid‑1900s.
