History & Craftsmanship

These are genuine old Venetian drawn glass seed beads, also known as Conteria beads or Old Venetian Drawn Beads. Their origins trace back to Venice’s centuries‑old bead‑making tradition, and this style was widely used in the African trade from the early to mid‑1900s.

Each tiny bead was crafted by hand in Venice  glass rods heated and drawn into thin tubes, then cut into uniform 3 mm seed beads. Once cooled, the beads were polished and striped by master glassworkers in the Venetian workshops, creating the classic yellow-and-clear motifs prized by traders.

Value & Collectibility

These antique Venetian conteria beads are highly collectible due to their age, craftsmanship, and historical trade significance. Their small size and uniformity demand skilled making, and the intact striped pattern enhances their visual and monetary value.

Whether you’re a collector of vintage trade beads, a jewelry designer seeking authentic materials, or a history lover interested in African–European trade artifacts, this strand offers both aesthetic beauty and historical provenance.
