These tiny Venetian seed beads are authentic, old drawn trade beads (also known as Conteria beads or Old Venetian Seed beads). They were widely used in the African trade during the early to mid‑1900s.
History, Value & Manufacturing
These Conteria drawn beads were crafted in Venice using the traditional drawn‑glass technique: molten glass is pulled into fine rods, stretched, and cut into uniform seed beads. Venice was renowned for this skill, producing ultra‑fine seed beads prized worldwide. Over time, these beads became a currency of trade in Africa, valued not only for their vibrant colors and uniformity, but also for their rarity and antiquity. Today, original old Venetian drawn seed beads are highly collectible and sought after by bead collectors and artisans, fetching strong prices due to their historical significance and fine craftsmanship.
