  • Strand length: approx. 27 1⁄4″ (69 cm) of beads
  • Condition: Excellent some beads are lightly chipped (please examine photos carefully).

These are genuine Old Venetian seed beads (also known as Venetian seed glass trade beads, conteria beads, Old Venetian drawn beads). Worn historically in African trade during the early to mid‑1900s, this strand will be identical to the one shown in the photograph.

History & Value

Old Venetian drawn beads carry deep heritage hand‑made in Venice, Italy, where skilled glassworkers pulled molten glass into very fine hollow canes, then cut them into tiny uniform beads. These CONTERIA drawn beads were produced using centuries‑old Venetian glass‑drawing techniques, prized for their color purity and consistent size.

The translucent blue hue and small 2 mm scale make this strand particularly collectible. Its excellent condition, combined with light wear from age, adds character without detracting from its value. As true trade beads, they reflect a meaningful era when glass beads were currency across West and Central Africa.
