The artisans of Krobo employ a meticulous technique to create these stunning beads. Small glass beads are used as raw material, placed into clay molds, and then fired in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the smaller beads together, forming larger, non-translucent beads with unique and colorful designs. Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and often polished to smooth out any rough edges.
Krobo beads are celebrated for their vibrant colors and intricate patterns, holding cultural significance in Ghanaian society. They are often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity, making them not just beautiful pieces of art, but meaningful cultural artifacts as well.
