History, Value & Venetian Craftsmanship

These Old Venetian seed beads often referred to as Conteria beads were hand‑drawn and produced in Venice for use in African trade during the early to mid 1900s. Each bead was painstakingly stretched from glass canes through tiny holes, resulting in the characteristic tubular shape and uniform tiny size that collectors prize. The bead’s rich history and precision craftsmanship add value and prestige to every piece.

Venetian drawn bead‑making was a skilled art: molten glass was pulled through very fine holes by hand, one bead at a time, cooled, and then often tumbled to smooth the edges. The result is a uniform strand of tiny highly polished beads prized by collectors and artisans alike.
