Authentic Ghana Krobo Recycled Glass Beads - Imitation Dutch Annular
Experience the beauty and craftsmanship of Krobo recycled glass beads, made by the skilled artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. This stunning strand features beads inspired by the classic design of old Dutch Annular trade beads, showcasing the artistry and cultural heritage of West Africa.
The strand is approximately 21.5 inches (54.5 cm) long, filled with beads that are individually handmade. Each bead measures approximately:
- 12 mm in diameter
Crafted from fragments of recycled glass, these beads are formed in clay molds and then fired in kilns to achieve their translucent and variegated appearance. This meticulous process preserves the glass fragments’ original character, resulting in unique beads with vibrant patterns and rich colors.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
The artisans of Kroboland employ time-honored techniques to create these remarkable beads. Glass bottles and other recycled items are carefully collected, cleaned, and broken into fragments. These are placed into clay molds and fired at high temperatures. The result is a beautiful bead that retains its original translucency and intricate designs, reflecting the essence of African culture.
Trade beads have played a significant role in Ghanaian society and throughout Africa for centuries. They are not only a medium of exchange but also hold ceremonial importance, symbolizing status, identity, and tradition.
